WHAT IS A TUNE-UP?

The term “tune-up” is closely associated with routine or scheduled maintenance. Automobile manufacturers have developed routine maintenance schedules to recommend when it’s time to replace spark plugs, PCV valves, fuel filters, and more. These schedules also include intervals for checking or adjusting ignition timing, idle speed, and other items related to your engine, as well as emission-control related devices.

Tune-ups have evolved over time. In the past, many vehicles used ignition systems, but nowadays, vehicles have moved to computer-based fuel injection systems. Regardless of your vehicle’s age, tune-ups are an important part of preventive maintenance. If they’re not already a part of your maintenance plan, you risk facing unexpected repairs down the road. Stop in today for a tune-up and be better informed about your car with a comprehensive inspection.

WHY TUNE-UPS ARE SO IMPORTANT

Tune-ups are good for the overall health of your vehicle’s engine, allowing it to run more efficiently. Benefits of regular tune-ups include:

Better Gas Mileage

Spark plugs can burn back over time, which results in more air – and fuel – needed to run the engine. In addition, dirty fuel and air filters reduce fuel economy. Replacing spark plugs, fuel filters, and air filters can result in better gas mileage for your vehicle.

Improved Performance

Tune-ups help to restore engine power and performance that has been lost over time. The result? Better acceleration, a smoother ride, and yeah, more power.

Lower Vehicle Emissions

Because healthy engines use fuel more efficiently, it reduces the amount of carbon dioxide that is released into the air.

Reduce The Chances Of Costly Repairs

Prevent breaking down on the road and extend the life of your vehicle. Regular tune-ups are designed to identify and address small issues before they become bigger problems. The reality is that a single poorly functioning component can in turn affect other parts of your vehicle. Our Technicians are skilled at fixing or replacing any worn out or broken parts, resolving not only the issue at hand, but preventing further damage to other components of your car. All in all, tune-ups are a great way to prevent future costly repairs and avoid dreaded breakdowns while on the road.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED A TUNE-UP?

Preventive maintenance is important to the comprehensive care of your vehicle. But we get it. It can be hard to keep up with your busy schedule, and sometimes, things can go wrong in between appointments. Here are some signs that you’re overdue for a tune-up:

  • Dashboard “Check Engine” light is on
  • Unusual sounds, shaking, or vibrations
  • Stalling
  • Difficulty starting
  • Poor fuel mileage
  • Slow acceleration

HOW OFTEN DOES MY CAR NEED A TUNE-UP?

We always recommend following your vehicle’s manufacturer’s manual for suggested tune-up maintenance. With that said, newer vehicles equipped with computer-based fuel injection systems can often go between 25,000 and 100,000 miles before needing a tune-up. On the other hand, older vehicles with traditional ignition systems should generally be serviced at 10,000 to 12,000 miles or annually.
